The Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) has launched the first
ever Wangari Maathai Award in honour of the Kenyan environmental activist who championed forest issues around the world.
The closing date for nominations is 20 July 2012.
The
award in the amount of USD20,000 will be given in recognition of
outstanding contributions made by an individual to preserve, restore and
sustainably manage forests and to communicate the key role forests play
in rural livelihoods and the environment across generations. Applicants should be nominated by a third party.
This year marks the first year of the Award which will be presented on 27 September 2012, the first anniversary of Wangari Maathai’s death, during the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO) and 3rd World Forestry Week (WFW) meetings.
