SylvaMED Project Results

The SylvaMED project has drawn to a close after 3 years of collaboration on Payments for Environmental Services (PES) in seven partner countries around the Mediterranean basin.

SylvaMED is a European territorial cooperation project, part of the MED transnational program  facilitating innovative integration of forest environmental services into regional policies through case studies demonstrating that PES and MBI systems are feasible and sustainable both environmentally and economically in our Mediterranean rural communities.

Based on pilot project results from case studies taking place in Catalonia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain, the project has developed several tools for policy-makers and practitioners:

  • The Catalogue on Best Practices - a practical step-by-step guide to the implementation of PES projects, based on the regional case studies
  • The Green Book - a dissemination tool on PES themes aimed at policymakers and other stakeholders (available in 7 languages: English, French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Greek and Slovenian, coming soon in PDF and printed copy)
