Collaborative Partnership on Mediterranean Forests

The Collaborative Partnership on Mediterranean Forests (CPMF) was launched in 2010.

Parties to the CPMF intend to work together to strengthen the capacity of member countries of Silva Mediterranea (Committee of Mediterranean Forestry Questions), and of the Silva Mediterranea secretariat. Their aim is to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Forest Management and the protection of forest-based ecosystem services under climate change conditions in the Southern Mediterranean region, namely in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey.

In particular, the partnership addresses four key interlinked problems:

  • Inadequate policies and lack of inter-sectoral cooperation;
  • Lack of knowledge and information;
  • Low public awareness;
  • Lack of adequate funding.

From 2011 onwards, and on the basis of individual commitments and contributions from each partner, an annual operational plan for the CPMF has been developed. The first operational plan (2011- 2013) took into consideration the results and recommendations of the Istanbul workshop of September 2010. The second operational plan (2014-2016) was drafted following the CPMF Steering Committee, which took place in December 2013 in Hammamet.
